As temperatures rise and boaters hit the waves, the Coast Guard is responding to a heightened number of avoidable incidents and Good Samaritans are coming to the rescue. According to Capt. Olav Saboe, commander of Coast Guard Sector North Bend, “Most drowning and near-drowning cases are preventable if people take the right safety measures. To reduce the risk of drowning, it is essential for boaters to wear a life-jacket at all times. If an emergency arises, you may not have the opportunity to put it on.”
