How is a twisted fishing line fixed?

There’s nothing more frustrating than being out on the water and reeling in a twisted fishing line. Whether you’re an experienced angler or new to the sport, it’s a problem that’s bound to happen at some point. Fortunately, fixing a twisted fishing line is a fairly easy process.

The first step to fixing a twisted line is to retrieve it back onto the reel. Once the line is back on the reel, clip the hook onto the nearest fixed object, such as a boat cleat or a tree branch. Then, walk backwards while keeping tension on the line. This will help to unravel the twists in the line.

If the line is still twisted after doing this, take the spool of line off of the reel and rewind it. It’s important to make sure that the line is being spooled evenly onto the reel. If one section of the line is tighter than the other, it can cause the line to twist easily. To prevent this from happening in the future, be sure to pack the line onto the reel properly.

Another way to prevent twisted fishing line is to use a swivel. Swivels are small metal devices that connect two lines together. They allow the line to twist without causing a kink in the line. This can be particularly helpful when using lures or bait that have a lot of action. By using a swivel, it also makes replacing your hook or lure much easier.

It’s also important to note that some types of fishing line are more prone to twisting than others. Monofilament line can be particularly susceptible to twisting. This is because of its inherent flexibility. Braided line, on the other hand, is less likely to twist because of its rigidity. However, braided line can be more difficult to untangle if it does become twisted.

A twisted fishing line is a common problem amongst anglers. However, it can be easily fixed by reeling in the line and walking backwards to unravel the twists. To prevent this from happening in the future, using a swivel on your line and packing the line onto the reel properly can be helpful. By taking the time to properly care for your line, you can spend more time focusing on the thrill of the catch.
