Throughout the summer and into the fall, the Sunset paddlewheel boat was moored near the mouth of the Bad River, located on the Fort Pierre side of the Missouri. In late December, Caleb Gilkerson, captain and co-owner of the vessel, relocated it to avoid the ice that had formed in the smaller river.
