How to enter a kayak from water?

Kayaking is one of the most popular water activities enjoyed by people all over the world. Kayaks are small, nimble boats that are used to explore waterways, including lakes, rivers, and oceans. If you’re new to kayaking, one of the first things you’ll need to learn is how to enter a kayak from the water.

Step 1: Position Your Kayak

To enter a kayak from the water, position your kayak parallel to the shore or dock. The kayak should be partially in the water with the cockpit facing towards the shore or dock.

Step 2: Hold on to the Kayak

Hold on to the sides of the kayak with both hands to keep it steady. Make sure you are standing in waist-deep water and your feet are secure on the muddy or stony bottom.

Step 3: Get into the kayak

Once you have a firm grip on the kayak, take one leg and place it inside the cockpit. Keep it slightly bent and lowered down to the kayak, near the seat. With your other hand holding the back of the seat, and the other leg remaining outside, shift towards the cockpit, and gently place your butt onto the seat.

Step 4: Adjust

After safely sitting down, move your body so that you are sitting straight and centered in the boat. Your legs should be bent with your feet resting on the adjustable footrests at the front of the kayak. Finally, pull the skirt of the kayak around the rim of the cockpit and fasten it to keep the water out.

Final Word:

Getting into a kayak from the water might be a bit challenging for first-timers, but with practice, it gets easier. Always maintain a good grip on the kayak, keep your movements slow and steady, and adjust your body to maintain a stable balance in the water. Remember to maintain caution, wear a life jacket, and enjoy the fun of kayaking in the water!
