Andrew Jackson Higgins, the man Dwight D. Eisenhower once credited with winning World War II, was a man of eccentric genius. At his New Orleans plant, where the boats that transported troops to Normandy on June 6, 1944 were built, Higgins posted a sign that read, “Anybody caught stealing tools from this yard won’t be fired — they’ll be sent to the hospital.”
